Dynasty Warriors 5 PS2

The place is the vast lands of China. The time is the turn of the 2nd century. This is the story of the Three Kingdoms, which has been passed down for generations. A story of Peace, Chaos, Prosperity and Decline. A story of brave Heroes and treacherous Villians.

Dynasty Warriors 5 is one of the latest instalment in the Dynasty Warriors series. It is still the same hack and slash game it always has been. This instalment sees improved graphics, new playable characters and weapons of war. For the sake of those who have not been following the series, here’s all you need to know. The setting is ancient china. The playable characters are an ensemble of legendary chinese warriors (dress up in very fancy anime type costumes), and the gameplay pretty much consists of hacking and slashing your way through hundreds upon hundreds of enemy soldiers with the aim of taking out the enemy generals and commander. That’s how it has been throughout the series and DW5 is no different.

There are 48 playable characters in the game, 6 of which are totally new to the series. Most of the characters will have to be unlocked. All the characters are based on a figure from the war torn period of the later Han dynasty.

There is just something addictive about bashing your way through a crowd of hundreds that keeps you coming back for more. But what really interests me in the game is the individual story that comes along with playing each character. Each character have their own storyline, part fiction and part history. I see it as a fun way of learning history. Chinese history teachers should consider letting their students play these sort of games more often. I would recommend this to people who are new to the series or die hard fans like myself. If you have played a Dynasty Warriors game before and were looking for a new experience, then you should look elsewhere.
